Happy Friday gorgeous! If you’re heading over to the beach or pool to cool off this weekend, don’t forget your sun protection. Yes, sunblocks and creams are a must (for my favorite products click here), however I’m talking about the rash guard and it is the new summer essential (more summer essentials here, here, & here). It’s basically a swim shirt to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Many rash guards are constructed with special UV blocking fabric for extra sun safety. The rash guard is relatively new to American swim attire, however many countries have been benefiting from their sun protection powers for decades. When they were first introduced stateside, they weren’t so appealing (let’s be honest, they were appalling). Well, I’m happy to tell you that the rash guard has come a long way and is now a mainstay in swim fashion. From long-sleeve to short sleeve and chic to sporty, designers have taken notice and now offer a variety to suit all styles. Here I’m sporting a J.Crew black & white striped rash guard (I’m wearing this one backwards to have the zipper in the front) and bikini bottom that I got last summer and paired it with a J.Crew red bikini top from a few years ago. I love the quality of their swimwear and the simplicity of their designs that last year after year. This is just one from my collection of rash guards that I also wear when I play tennis and other outdoor activities.
Have you tried wearing a rash guard to protect your skin from the sun? What’s your favorite style? Do you wear a rash guard for other activities too? Please share, I’d love to hear from you.
PS- Although my cherry blossoms are not wearing rash guards in these photos (they do have many of them though as seen here), they do have water resistant sunblock on. I let them choose their own swimwear for this and they chose the adorable mismatched ensemble here.
A special thank you to Allana Wesley White Photography for the lovely photos.
