Hello, beautiful. My cherry blossoms love living the Florida life, which includes long days swimming in the pool, going to the beach, snorkeling, and having fun at water parks and splash pads. This water fun isn’t reserved just for the summer. With warm temps and year round sunshine, these little mermaids enjoy splish-splashing all year long. To say that they spend a lot of time in swimwear is an understatement. When shopping for my girls’ bathing suits, I’ve become quite picky. We need swimwear to keep up with them year round (or at least until they outgrow it) and give them the cute style they love.
It’s no surprise that quality and function are just as important to me as style (here and here) when it comes to choosing the right pieces to add to my wardrobe. This is the same for my daughters’ style. Here are some of the things I look for when choosing swimwear for Mila and Kaiya:
- Quality– I’d rather spend a little extra money on a good bathing suit that will last than one that will fall apart, fade, or wear out and need to be replaced. By spending a little extra money upfront, I spend less in the long run.
- Bikini/Tankini– I prefer to get the twins two-piece bathing suits over one-pieces. This comes down to practicality- when nature calls, it’s a lot easier for the little ones to slip down a bikini bottom than struggle with a one piece.
- Sun Protection– We spend a lot of time outside in the bright Florida sun, therefore I’m always concerned about protecting their skin. Not only do I cover these two in sunblock, but I also look for swimwear made from sun protecting fabrics.
- Style– that’s a given!
- Range of sizes– Being fraternal twins, Mila and Kaiya are 2 very different little girls- in both personality and body type. There’s such a difference in their size that Mila still wears toddler sizes, while Kaiya wears little girl sizes. Very few companies offer the same styles for toddlers and little girls, making it difficult for them to match (they don’t always want to match, but they want to have the same options so they can match if they are in the mood).
It can be quite a challenge meeting all the criteria for the perfect swimwear for my little sunshine girls. These Cabana Life tankinis saved me from a shopping nightmare. First of all, they are made of strong, sun protective fabric that will keep holding up until the kiddos outgrow it. Second, I just love the adorable tankini style with the skirted bottom. There’s something about a little girls bathing suit with a little skirt that I find precious- and I know it won’t be long before they will protest against this! This set also came with an adorable hooded terrycloth coverup (not shown) that we use for all their swimwear. Finding the right size for both Mila and Kaiya was a breeze since Cabana Life has an amazing range of sizes from infants all the way up through adults. As you can see in these photos, my cherry blossoms love these tankinis as much as I do (mommy and daughters liking the same clothing for them is another thing I know won’t last!).
